all the process behind a physical data art piece ✨
a behind-the-scenes look at "though a patriarchy would privilege the changelessness of the sun over the inconstancy of the moon and you"
Good morning and Happy Black Friday 💸!
I’ll keep this newsletter short and sweet so that you can bookmark the link and get on with your shopping today hehe. Here’s my 3000+ word write-up of the process behind my physical data art piece, "though a patriarchy would privilege the changelessness of the sun over the inconstancy of the moon and you". It includes thoughts on inspirations, digital and paper prototypes, materiality, software and hardware choices, struggles of the second iteration that I did for the Info+ Exhibition in Edinburgh (where were these three days), and aaallll the places that I got it wrong 😂
I originally intended to send out this write-up on Wednesday, but it took me a few extra days because I realized that this one was just way too long for an email and I decided to stand up a whole blog website just to host it. (I had a lot of fun using GPT-4 to write my bash scripts for automating image/video processing and uploading them to The Cloud☁️™️, which I’m hoping to write about next if you’re interested 😊.)
Thanks always for reading these, and cheers from Edinburgh!
💖,
Shirley
